How to obtain a K-1 Fiance'(e) Visa

The journey to find my one true love was not easy. It took years of patience... more patience and LOVE before we finally made it!

I am sure a lot of you out there are feeling kind of pressured and stressed by just the mere fact of thinking about the process of obtaining a K-1 Fiance'(e) Visa. Trust me, it may seem complicated when you read the information online USCIS but it is not! You can apply without having to hire an agency or a lawyer. You will save $$$.

Here are some tips I can share to you based on my experience:

1.  Before anything else, get to know your significant other better. Do not hesitate to ask questions about background or anything that will make you start a conversation (like getting to know stage). You will both loosen up and find out the things you have in common. Especially in an LDR (long distance Relationship) it is very important to communicate. You should not run out of things to talk about - it adds spice to your relationship. You have something to look forward to every time you talk to each other.

2.  Take time. LDR (long distance relationship) is not for everyone. Me and my Fiance' which is my now husband have been through the bitter sweet journey. It takes more than patience and LOVE. You have to be committed to hang on til the end. Finding time to talk online or over the phone can be very challenging because of different timezones, work, emergency or any other urgent matters.

3. Work things out. You may disagree on certain things - Don't let it pass, try to fix it at the onset. It may cause your relationship, if prolonged. Some relationships fail when one thinks petty quarrels or arguments can be brushed off. We have different tolerance when it comes down to it. Just be ready for the consequences when it gets out of hand when things pile up.

4. Don't rush. Most of us think that marriage is a race. A few months before I turned 30, I felt the pressure of settling down because my peers are all married. Looking back, I made the right choice of waiting for the right time and of course - the right person! Guess when I met him? Right on time 👍

5. Getting to know the person whom you will decide to share the rest of your life with does not really depend on the number of years you think is enough to say you know the Real person. The real dose will come out when you live in one roof. Lucky you if you have already witnessed the best and the worst in your partner beforehand. I consider myself lucky because I can tolerate him and vise-versa lol.

When you finally decide to be with each other forever, this is when the real adventure starts:

a. Download the Form I-I29F, Petition for Foreign Fiance' (you can download the form)

b. Be ready with your authenticated birth certificate, Certificate of no marriage (CENOMAR), NBI clearance (CENOMAR and NBI are valid for 6 months only based on the Philippine law) Make sure there's no spelling errors.

c. Divorce Decree (if petioner is divorced).

d. Tax Transcript other than the W-9 of the petioner. The annual income  should not be under $25k.

c. Should not be more than 2 years of not seeing each other in person when applying for K-1 Fiance' Visa.

d. Save your photos, receipts and pertinent papers as a proof of your relationship.

e. Add the Facebook page of K-1 Visa processing group. You will find great help. They helped us all throughout our journey.
